As COVID-19 drags on into its third year, a new study is painting a clearer picture of how the pandemic has strained Canada’s health-care system, delaying medical procedures and forcing a massive backlog of surgeries. Over the past 10 years, Concerts in Care (CIC), a Toronto-based non-profit, has arranged more than 2,100 concerts for seniors at various care homes in the GTA. When the pandemic hit, the group knew it needed to get back into these spaces quickly and since then they have offered several live Zoom and recorded concerts, reaching audiences in Ontario communities where professional musicians are often harder to come by, such as Cornwall, Peterborough and Thunder Bay.

"We are experiencing incredible pressure around wait times," says Dr. Rose Zacharias, president-elect of the Ontario Medical Association. "We know wait times are the number one concern of people post-pandemic."
