The World Health Organization’s emergencies director, Mike Ryan, warned that outbreaks of endemic diseases such as monkeypox and lassa fever are becoming more persistent and frequent due to climate change and other factors. "As the climate change contributes to rapidly changing weather conditions like drought, animals and humans are changing their food-seeking behaviour. As a result, diseases that typically circulate in animals are increasingly jumping into humans", he said.

Paramedics, firefighters, and nurses top the list of the jobs most respected by Canadians, according to a recently published survey by Maru Public Opinion. Farmers, medical doctors, and paramedics round out the top five occupations on the list. The survey was conducted in four waves of more than 1,500 samples among randomly selected Canadians.
“Our health-care system and the health workers are in a state of crisis we've never seen,” has said Dr. Katharine Smart, president of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), who assures the rate of burnout is double what it was pre-pandemic.
